MATS WAHLSTRÖM
IN BED WITH SPIRIT

Mats is the founder of Spirit of the Nomad. Makes sense to ask him what “in bed with Spirit” means to him.

What is your experience with Spirit of the Nomad brand?

10 years ago I set out to find the best quality sheets in the world as I was tired of poor quality and the expensive sheets, I always had to replace. Years and tons of cotton later I had found an amazing quality. Long-lasting, superior comfort with a luxurious feel at value for money. Now I'm happy to have one style & great quality in my homes and the same in all the beds. We tend to forget quality bedlinen is a flagship detail defining true comfort and peace of mind.

What do you feel is important to have a good night's sleep?

To me, it's very clear.  Clean, nice quality sheets, and I'm gone into my dreams.

Has your approach to quality changed over the years?

I think the older you get, the quality of details becomes more important and you become certain when to compromise or not.

In what way does your home reflect your personality?

In many ways reflecting a nomadic lifestyle and multicultural influence from years of travel in terms of art, furniture & details.

As for travel, is there anything you always have with you during a trip?

For me, it comes down to Marvis toothpaste, a good brush, and great bedlinen. I'm fine sleeping anywhere from under the stars, to shabby guest houses or nice hotels. The only difference is that I always bring a set of my own Egyptian cotton, wherever I go. It makes me sleep like a king anywhere!

What are some of your favorite destinations & why?

Have a couple,  St Moritz for winter fun, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica for beach, NYC & Hong Kong for city walks

Do you have any favorite hotels?

Soho House Berlin has a great vibe, Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok amazing location, and W in Verbier for fantastic comfort.

Is there any destination or trip you still have on your bucket list?

Always wanted to go to Lamu, North Kenya, but every time there was a bit of unrest. Somehow I can not get the Lamu beauty out of my head.
